*Our bodies are made of cells. Many cells together form tissues and organs. Tissues and organs make up systems. (Nuestros cuerpos están formados por células. Muchas células juntas forman tejidos y órganos. Los tejidos y los órganos forman sistemas). *Human beings are made up of animal cells. Animal cells have three main parts: the membrane, the cytoplasm and the nucleus. Cells also have organelles. (Los seres humanos están forados por células animales. Las células animales tienen tres partes principales: la membrana, el citoplasma y el núcleo. Las células también tienen orgánulos). *The shape of the cell depends on its function. (La forma de la célula depende de su función). *Similar cells can work together and form tissues. Different tissues perform specific functions in the body. (Células similares pueden trabajar juntas y formar tejidos. Diferentes tejidos llevan a cabo funciones específicas en el cuerpo). *Skin tissue covers the outside of the body. (El tejido epitelial cubre la parte externa del cuerpo). *Fat tissue stores fats for energy. (El tejido óseo forma los huesos y sujeta el cuerpo).. *Muscle tissue moves the different body parts. (El tejido muscular mueve las diferentes partes del cuerpo). *Nervous tissue transmits information around the body and coordinates the body’s functions. (El tejido nervioso transmite información alrededor del cuerpo y coordina las funciones del cuerpo). *Tissues can work together and form organs. Each organ performs a different function. (Los tejidos pueden trabajar juntos y formar órganos. Cada órgano lleva una función diferente). *A system is a group of organs and tissues that work together to carry out a specific function. Systems work together to carry out the basic life processes of nutrition, interaction and reproduction. (Un sistema es un grupo de órganos y tejidos que trabajan juntos para llevar a cabo una función específica. Los sistemas trabajan juntos para realizar las tres funciones vitales de nutrición, interacción y reproducción). *Nutrition: Some of our systems take in, use and transform the substances that we need to live and grow. (Nutrición: algunos de nuestros sistemas toman, usan y transforman las sustancias que necesitamos para vivir y crecer). *Reproduction: Our reproductive system allows us to reproduce by having children. (Reproducción:: nuestro sistema reproductivo permite reproducirnos teniendo descendencia). *Interaction: Some of our systems detect information about the world and help us react to that information. (Relación: algunos de nuestros sistemas detectan información del mundo y nos ayudan a reaccionar a la información). * An important advance in medicine has been new machines that help doctors discover the cause of an illness or injury, help to treat it and help people recover after treatment (X-ray machines, scanners, dialysis machines and incubators). (Un importante avance en medicina han sido las nuevas máquinas que ayudan a los médicos/as a diagnosticar la causa de una enfermedad o una lesión, a tratarlas y ayudar a los pacientes a recuperarse tras el tratamiento (máquinas de rayos X, escáneres, máquinas de diálisis e incubadoras). * Vaccines give our bodies immunity from contagious diseases.
